Downtown Oakland needs all the help it can get, food-and-beverage wise, as Uptown and Jack London Square fill up with new dining and boozing options. The openings of District and Borgo Italia in Old Oakland certainly help, but now right in the heart of City Center comes a new project from Chop Bar owner Chris Pastena, in the historic Tribune Tower building. As Eater reports, it will be called Tribune Tavern, and it will be Chop Bar-esque, with a big selection of local beer and wine, a full cocktail program, and in-house charcuterie program. They’re still interviewing chefs, but the intention is to serve reasonably priced comfort food, and to open by mid-March 2013. Stay tuned. [Eater]
