Michael Ahern, who opened Dorchester’s Sweet Life bakery and cafe just last week, is scheduled for arraignment today after he ran over and killed a cyclist on Morrissey Boulevard early Friday while drunk. Ahern is also a partner in the Ledge Kitchen & Drinks.

According to the Dorchester Reporter, he was arrested on Sunday after a state police investigation. However, he did call 911 from the scene of the crash and remained there until police and EMTs arrived. He’ll be charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, and speeding. Cyclist Doan Bui, 63, died in the crash and was killed instantly.

Not long ago, we wondered if the celebrated Husk DUI case would make restaurants cut down on staff drinking. No word on whether Ahern was imbibing at the Ledge. … but life definitely isn’t very sweet for him right now. Sad, sad, sad.
