We’d heard a rumor a while back that award-winning barman Erick Castro was working on a new bar, but alas it’s not in San Francisco. Castro is relocating back to San Diego (where he went to college) to open a soda-fountain-esque bar called Polite Provisions backed by the group behind SD’s Craft & Commerce and Neighborhood. Castro’s an alum of both Bourbon & Branch and Rickhouse, and he went on to become a brand ambassador for Plymouth and Beefeater gins. Now he’ll be settling back in to create a bar program down south, including hand-crafted sodas and spiked milkshakes. Next door will be a sister restaurant called Soda & Swine, headed up by chef Jason McLeod, and both are located at 30th and Adams in the increasingly hip Normal Heights neighborhood. The grand opening is set for December. [UTSD]
