Magnolia Bakery filed a federal suit yesterday against an ex-employee who owns Apple Cafe Bakery in the West Village. The cupcake specialist is claiming Apple’s owner, Buba Trawally, copied the “unique and distinctive” look of its mini-cakes, despite having signed a confidentiality agreement. And this isn’t the first time Magnolia has lodged complaints of copycatting. At least there don’t seem to be any mobsters involved in this food fight. [NYDN]
