Festival Bar Kicks Off With Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe; JohnnyMac Cooks Dinner Down on the Farm

• Just as Jose Garces is bringing the farm to the table, Pub & Kitchen’s Jonathan Adams is bringing the table to the farm, Wyebrook Farm in nearby Honey Brook to be exact. He’s joining farmer Dean Carlson for a special five-course dinner on September 22 that will be served inside Wyebrook’s refurbished 18th Century barn. The dinner is open to only 40 guests, costs $80 per person, and will be a BYOB affair. Email info@wyebrookfarm.com for reservations. [Grub Street]

Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe kicks off tonight, bringing with it the always lively and entertaining Festival Bar. This year it’s being set up at Underground Arts and will be open every night at 10 p.m. through the end of the festival. Cabaret, variety shows, and live music are scheduled for each night. Sunday will feature the Star Trek inspired band the Roddenberries. [Grub Street]

Johnny Brenda’s is hosting its fourth annual Pils Picnic on Saturday, tapping more than ten kegs of pilsener beers from breweries near and far, including Troegs, Stoudt’s, Dogfish Head, Victory, and Sixpoint. The kitchen will have a bunch of beer friendly specials, like deviled eggs, cold fried chicken, roast beef sandwiches, and housemade soft pretzels. [Grub Street]

• If you’re planning on venturing to Kennett Square this weekend for the 27th annual Mushroom Festival, you may want to pay a visit to Talula’s Table while out there. Owner Aimee Olexy and her crew will have a stand set up out front, where they will be dispensing mushroom soup, mushroom and cabbage spring rolls, mushroom risotto, and mushroom cheese dip all made with local mushrooms. • Big ups to Philadelphia Inquirer critic Craig Laban, who scored a pretty sweet and most prestigious first place in the “Best Newspaper Restaurant Criticism” category of the Association of Food Journalists Awards Competition. [ASJ]
