Sorry scenesters: Those checking into the Liberty Hotel will no longer get free champagne on arrival. Boston Police detectives issued the hotel a citation for violating a state law banning free booze, which was first eliminated by spoilsport Mike Dukakis.
Fear not though: The Liberty plans to fight back. They say that happy hours involve bars and restaurants competing to see how many free drinks they can pump into patrons. A complimentary glass of bubbly at a hotel is totally different.
You know, if free drinks are the real enemy, the police should consider trailing every single ‘n mingling thirty-something guy hanging out at Clink on a Saturday night. [UH]
