In an interview yesterday with Grub Street, Alexandre Cammas, the founder of mixed and mingled food, art, and music happening Le Fooding, told Grub Street “we are supposed to go to Los Angeles next year–in April,” hinting at a coming stint at MOCA, though he wasn’t quite ready to set anything specific in stone. Today, The L.A. Times follows up to find Le Fooding will indeed touch down on the West Coast, with something possibly up its sleeves at Chateau Marmont. Organizer Anna Polonsky tells the paper, “We’ll probably do something closer to what we originally did in New York. Something bigger, a big urban picnic with Le Fooding’s touch - great musicians, DJs, graphic art.” Sounds pretty cool!
In addition to a great party coming our way, the arrival of Le Fooding to our shores could also be viewed as yet another marker that L.A. has overcome its underdog status and stale stereotypes, demonstrating further acceptance by fickle New Yorkers and insular Brooklynites, long among the most disparaging of our Left Coast culture (or perceived lack-thereof). Le Fooding just kicked off in New York and among the assembled chefs are L.A. heroes Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo.
As if to confirm the word is out about our flush chef, bar, and restaurant scene, Polonsky goes on to say, “In terms of food it’s really interesting, it’s a new story different than the New York scene.”
