A group of retired military leaders are warning that U.S. armed forces are facing their most ruthless and savage adversary to date, and it could undermine the very safety of this great nation of ours. It’s not the proliferation of nuclear weapons, nor germ or chemical warfare. It’s not even those pesky Russians that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says pose the greatest threat to this country. It’s junk food. Yeah, like Twinkies, Pepsi, and Snickers bars! And if something isn’t done about it soon, we’ll all be speaking Russian, Arabic, or some other foreign tongue as we stuff our overly fattened faces full of “fourth meals,” and supersize sodas.

Mission: Readiness, a nonpartisan group made up of more than 100 retired U.S. generals and admirals, says in its “Too Fat to Fight’ report that junk food in America’s school cafeterias has made more than 27 percent of today’s 17- to 24-year-olds too tubby for military service. They’re urging Congress to pass legislation that would ban junk food from schools and increase funding to improve nutrition, quality of school lunches, and promote healthier eating habits.
