Hummus Shop Open on the LES; Gastroarte Shutters Temporarily

• Upper West Side Spanish restaurant Gastroarte has shuttered “temporarily,” amid rumors of a staff exodus; as we mentioned, chef Jesús Nuñez will open another Spanish sport, Barraca, later this month at 81 Greenwich Avenue. [Eater NY]

• Chef Jehangir Mehta of Graffiti and Mehtaphor will be cooking at Millbrook Winery’s annual harvest party on October 13, where he will prepare a four-course lunch paired with the winery’s offerings. $165 for lunch and transportation from Grand Central, $125 if you get there on your own. [Grub Street]

• The straightforwardly named Hummus Shop is now open on Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side. The restaurant, a creation of the owner of Candela Candela, will offer bargain-priced hummus and other Mediterranean selections. It’s hot on the heels of the opening of equally simply named Falafel Shop, nearby. [Bowery Boogie]

• A different kind of “mugging”: In an attack eerily reminiscent of the allegedly murderous U.S. Open referee, a 45-year-old man was slashed in the face with the broken handle of a coffee mug in an Atlantic Avenue subway station. [Brooklyn Paper]

• Swine-centric sandwich shop Rocket Pig is now offering “Pignics,” boxed lunches to eat on the nearby High Line or the picnic location of your choice. Twenty bucks gets you a pork sandwich, coleslaw, chips, a drink, and a bag of bacon caramels. [Grub Street]

• In celebration of a year in business, Saxon + Parole on the Bowery is offering a five-course prix fixe for $65; stick around after for free drinks at their late-night celebration. Call 212-254-0350 to reserve a spot. [Grub Street]

• Bust out the cigars, whether or not you have anything to celebrate, at the Lamb’s Club, where chef Geoffrey Zakarian will be preparing a five-course menu paired with cocktails and cigars. The dinner is $250; call 212-997-5262 to reserve. [Grub Street]

• Football season has arrived, and Michael White’s Nicoletta is making it easy to chow down in front of the game: Two one-topping pizzas and a ten-piece order of fried chicken wings are $40 when ordered for takeout or delivery on Sunday or Monday after 5 p.m. [Grub Street]
