Citing a sluggish economy and dwindling gambling dollars, Hard Rock International today announced that it’s calling off plans to build a boutique casino in Atlantic City. It was to be the first in a series of smaller hotel-casinos that many had hoped would resuscitate the struggling Jersey Shore gambling resort. After Revel’s lackluster performance this summer, surely this news doubles down on the bummer the city’s been dealt in recent years. Hard Rock not happening also means that plans for a museum displaying artifacts commemorating the Beatles’ and Rolling Stones’ past Atlantic City performances are off, too. And yet, Margaritaville is going full steam over at Resorts. [AP]
