Food Trucks Now Truckin’ Down to the Navy Yard

Keep on truckin'
Keep on truckin’

Every time we start thinking this food truck schtick is starting to run out of gas, another gathering place for the mobile munch set opens up. Today it’s the Navy Yard, which will now host a rotating assortment of four-wheelers on Thursdays at the Marine Parade Grounds, near Intrepid and Broad streets. Philly Mobile Food Association sent word this morning that Pitruco Pizza, Foo Truck, Street Food, and Mom Pops will be the first to sling lunch there. If you work at the Navy Yard, this probably comes as great news, since the dining options down there are so limited. But for those who spend daytime hours north of Pattison Avenue, which is, like, everyone, it’s kind of a cruel tease.

But in the grand scheme, the Navy Yard serves as small victory for Philly’s budding food truck movement. With it, and a leg up from City Councilman Mark Squilla, maybe there’s some hope for efforts to come up with new zoning rules for the way the city regulates mobile food vendors.
