The proximity of New Orleans native Dwight Henry’s doughnut shop to a movie shoot across the street just happened to land him a lead role in the year’s critically acclaimed Beasts of the Southern Wild, and the baker/actor now says a potential collaboration on a line of baked goods with Nobu vet Richie Notar for a Harlem space is “looking real, real good.” Notar is developing three restaurants, and plans include trying to secure a liquor license at the famed Lenox Lounge. “It’s not going to be the Buttermilk Drop,” Henry says, on his involvement. “They want to develop their own name but they want the New Orleans flavor and my face on it. And my buttermilk drops.” Buttermilk really does seem to be getting its due. [T Magazine/NYT, Related, Earlier]
