Whole Foods Opening Thursday in Midtown East

Poor, granola-starved Williams-burghers might not see their Whole Foods anytime soon, but midtown east is getting a branch of the grocery chain on Thursday, the seventh in Manhattan. Per custom, there’ll be a “bread breaking” ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m., with food and drink freebies and a limited number of gift bags for anyone staunch enough to brave the crowds. The opening at 226 East 57th Street (near Third Avenue) also kicks off the grocer’s plan to install salad bars at 57 schools around the city — maybe this kid wants to consult?
