From Lolla to Chick Fil-A to Shui Wah closing (which seemed to draw the most interest from our Twitter followers), we hardly had time last week for the bread and butter of food news sites, chefs and other personnel changing jobs from one hot restaurant to the next. But we’ll start catching up on that this morning with Rachel Lowe, the former wine director at Sixteen who was bumped aside when Will Douillet (himself a former sommelier) took over as Sixteen’s general manager. Where did Lowe land? Surprisingly, it isn’t another downtown hotel but Logan Square’s Bonsoiree in its new incarnation under Beverly Kim and her husband Johnny Clark. The fact of bringing in Lowe suggests that wine is getting a serious showcase at a place that is still (for another week or so) BYO under current chef-owner Shin Thompson; Lowe told Eater that she plans to concentrate on French and Italian wines, and that she’s looking forward to devising a list and pairings that play off the ever-changing tasting menu with its focus on Asian. umami-driven flavors.
