Look Who's Popping Up

Starr Setting Up Morimoto and Buddakan Pop-Ups Backstage at Made In America

For those about to rock, the golden Buddha salutes you.

While the hordes who turn out for this weekend’s Made in America fest on the Parkway struggle and push their way through the sweaty crowds to wait online at one of the handful of food trucks that will be set up, or for a chance to grab a cup of what our friends over at Phawker have dubbed “overpriced piss-tinted corporate firewater,” the big show’s host, Jay-Z, and the rest of the acts performing will be treated to something much more civilized and sophisticated backstage. Seems the catering arm of the Starr fleet is going to recreate two of its most popular restaurants, Morimoto and Buddakan for the fest’s stars and VIPs.

A rep for Starr tells Grub today that the exclusive backstage spread will include maki rolls and nigiri sushi at the pop-up Morimoto Sushi Bar, and General Tsao’s dumplings, tuna tartare spring rolls, edamame with sea salt and a bunch of other dim sum-ish snacks from Buddakan. That’s a pretty sweet set-up, if you can actually get back there and stuff your face with the likes of Eddie Veder and H to the Izzo himself. If you can’t, well there’s a ton of nice restaurants in the Fairmount neighborhood that will be looking for a little boost to their business this weekend.
