Nice folks do finish first sometimes, and we couldn’t be happier for the Zaragoza family of the best little birrieria in town, Birria Zaragoza (see it in our taco slideshow here). Last week Andrew Zimmern was shooting the birria for Bizarre Foods (which may have been, at least in part, our doing; their researcher suggested another worthy place, and we strongly urged them to check out the Zaragozas as having a better story, not to mention better English for TV). It may seem a longshot for even TV to get people to trek to south Pulaski for goat, though, which is why the second piece of news is good news too: Mike Sula reports at the Reader that Jonathan Zaragoza, the 23-ish son of the family, who has been learning the ropes of more upscale dining at restaurants like Sepia, is taking over the reins at Logan Square’s Masa Azul. It will close for a week and reopen with Jonathan in charge— and serving goat— sometime around the second week of September. [Reader]
