Thanks to Adam Richman, and his cross-continent quest for America’s Best Sandwich the rest of the world finally knows what we’ve known all along: the roast pork with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone served on a seeded roll at Reading Terminal Market’s DiNic’s is this country’s greatest sandwich. That was the verdict from the show’s finale last night. DiNic’s roast pork beat 28 other contenders, including the wild card cheesesteak from South Philly’s John’s Roast Pork. Of the winner, Detroit Free Press quoted Richman, saying “Oh my God. It hits every dimension a sandwich should hit; it’s crafted beautifully, always consistent and always tastes great.” While this is surely a great honor for DiNic’s, Reading Terminal Market and the sandwich paradise better known as the city of Philadelphia, it also verifies and validates that roast pork, not the nasty-ass Cheez Wiz-slathered cheesesteak, is this town’s signature sandwich. Sure sucks to be you Pat’s and Geno’s. [Travel Channel; DFP]
