Chumley’s Reportedly Reopening in October

In the five years since a wall collapse forced its shutter, our hopes of a Chumley’s reopening have been stoked and dashed over and over. Yet now TONY has it that the onetime West Village speakeasy is slated to reopen in October under the helm of manager Gina Ruiz, who’s restored the 175-year-old space and the fireplace and will offer pub grub. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald allegedly drank their postnuptial Champagne there in 1920, and many other drunk writerly types (Faulkner, Steinbeck, Edna St. Vincent Millay) frequented it over the years. We’ve been down this reopening road before, but this news does sound promising. [TONY, Earlier]
