As reported a few weeks ago, 56-year-old old-school Italian joint Caesar’s, near Fisherman’s Wharf at Bay and Powell, is shutting its doors after service tonight. Old-timers from around the Bay area convened for a goodbye lunch yesterday that the Chron took some photos of. And chef-owner Matteo Crirello, while feeling like the end of the restaurant is bittersweet, sounds a bit relieved. Local bartender and S.F. native Victoria D’Amato-Moran was in the other night and says that after she congratulated Crirello on the closing, he replied, “Madonna mia! You are the only one out of all these hundreds of people that has said this! I love you! Thank you. Yes! I need a break!” [Chron]
