After exactly a year, Cindy Pawlcyn is switching things up once more at Brassica in St. Helena, which was formerly Go Fish. She tells the Scoop that Brassica “has been struggling” and that people in the area aren’t making return visits because the menu is too “esoteric.” Well, if nothing else, she’s made a career of pleasing the tastes of wine country, and Pawlcyn’s decided to transform the restaurant yet again to something more American and comfort-foody, called Cindy Pawlcyn’s Wood Grill and Wine Bar (CP’s for short). Brassica’s last day will be Sunday, and they’ll reopen Wednesday with a new menu of classic dishes from Mustards Grill, as well as her long-ago days at Fog City Diner and Buckeye Roadhouse. Pizzas, always a hit, will stay on the menu.
Meanwhile, at her flagship, Mustards, chef of three years Dale Ray is leaving to pursue a graduate degree, and in his place will be Michael Foster, who’s spent the last three years at Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen. Darren McRonald remains the chef at Brassica/CP’s.
Fans of the wine program at Brassica need not worry: It will stay as-is, with 75 wines by the glass, and a dozen wines available in four quantities: 3 oz., 5 oz., 500 ml, or 750 ml.
