Newsweek just unveiled a new list of the World’s 101 Best Places to Eat, as chosen by 53 chefs from around the globe, and two San Francisco restaurants get chosen among just fourteen restaurants representing North America: Coi, and SPQR. In both cases, the celebrity chef who did the choosing was our very own Elizabeth Falkner, who recently defected to New York. Of Coi she says, "[It’s] beautiful, eccentric, and soulful, in sync with all of the best products of Northern California, and with a modern poetic vibe that only chef Daniel Patterson can speak." It’s a bit of a random list, asking 53 chefs to nominate restaurants, and we’re not sure who then vetted the final list — like, how are French Laundry, Per Se, and Noma all snubbed? But, alas, nice of them to give two nods to our fair city. Of SPQR, Falkner writes, "Chef Matt Accarrino has the best pasta in San Francisco, and Shelley Lindgren is one of my favorite sommeliers. Their attention to detail in the service, food, and amazing wines will blow anyone away."
