When it’s this hot outside, it’s probably your best bet to just completely forgo water and subsist solely on beer (which we’re told may even contain trace amounts of water itself). While we await confirmation from a bunch of scientists on that one, we see the next two weekends gearing up to be sudsy ones. First Blue Palms Brewhouse, which briefly blipped off the beer-lover’s map with a threatened push out of the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater last spring, will be celebrating its fourth year this Sunday with a 4th Anniversary Festival and Outdoor Beer Garden.

From noon to 8:00 P.M., guests will pay $45 for a wristband enabling them access to a dozen 5 oz. beers (or only ten pours if you buy it on the same day) from a massive list of great craft drafts, including Pizza Port Re-ox Pale Ale and oak casked Sculpin, along with snacks and grilling (last year they grilled two whole cow legs, and before that a full pig). The event, held inside of and next door to the restaurant, expects to be sold-out but tickets are still available online.

All you skirts know what’s up with 213. Cedd Moses’ nightlife company just brought home the title of best cocktail bar from Tales of the Cocktail for The Varnish and next Saturday, August 18, 213 is holding its own craft beer crawl at seven of its Downtown properties like Golden Gopher, Cana Rum Bar, Casey’s, Las Perlas, Seven Grand, and Cole’s.

The four hour event offers unlimited tastings of more than 70 craft beers, curated by The Beer Chicks and Cedd Moses, for an early admission price of $74 (1:00-7:00 P.M.) and $54 for general admission (4:00-7:00 P.M.). Beer seminars, such as a tasting of Italian craft beers, a session on sours, a tasting of beer with Highland Park scotch, and one providing The Beer Chicks’ favorites of the festival, are available at a separate cost of $15.

Among the breweries that will offer their goods are Ladyface, Drake’s, Green Flash, The Bruery, Smog City, Eagle Rock, and Ballast Point, while food trucks plan to line the crawl route to soak up the suds. Tickets for the Downtown event are available right here.
