After hearing that Eleven Madison Park will retrofit its menu and dining room to reflect all things New York — to include a homage to a Junior’s Cheescake slice in clam-shell packaging, this one serenely lying in state with a funereal Shasta daisy — it’s a cute kind of reciprocity to hear the old Brooklyn cheesecake titan is planning to convert the Outback Steakhouse at 919 Third Avenue “into a modern American restaurant that would pay tribute to the beginnings of his family’s business.” The grandson of the Junior’s founder presented his plans for the 170-seat Enduro’s Kitchen & Bar last week at a Community Board meeting. He did not bring cheesecake, DNAinfo reports, but announced plans to serve big portions at low prices. Menu details are scarce at this point, but we should add that, perhaps unexpectedly, Grub Street has heard a few high-profile chefs (think guys with three Michelin stars) have been approached during the last few months to consult on Enduro’s food.
