Sushi Groove South to Become Izakaya House [Update]

Sushi Groove (1916 Hyde Street) up on Russian Hill has seen some hard times lately, and were closed earlier this year after a bad health inspection. Now it appears the whole Sushi Groove enterprise may be under new ownership, and Grub Street finds this morning that Sushi Groove South (1516 Folsom Street) will be going the way of all Japanese things these days, and becoming an izakaya. Izakaya House owners Linda Ngau and Helen Hsu are applying for a new liquor license for the space, and they appear to be the new owners of Sushi Groove Inc. — that makes sense given that we already had the inkling that the business was for sale back in April. The switchover, and any possible closure for remodeling, may still be a couple of months off, but stay tuned, and look for potential changes at the original Sushi Groove too. [Grub Street] Update: Eater reports that Sushi Groove in Russian Hill is becoming Elephant Sushi.
