Stringer Wants Inwood Restaurant Put on Ice

Not the enemy.
Not the enemy.

In a somewhat rare move, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer pledged to “intervene personally” because the UWS location of controversial restaurant and lounge Papasito Mexican Grill and Agave Bar “is a dangerous nuisance.” The restaurant’s previous issues include noise complaints, unpaid rent, and an underage drinking sting. Stringer made his remarks about the Upper West Side Papasito (at 2278 Broadway) during a town hall meeting last week; the restaurant’s second, Inwood location, which at night turns into a packed lounge with loud music and rainbow-colored cocktails, is equally controversial: Spokesman Fernando Mateo claims the NYPD is targeting Hispanic-owned businesses, while other activists say they just want some quiet. Stringer promised to look into the situation at each restaurant, saying “I’m a little mystified why intervention hasn’t happened.” [DNAinfo, Earlier]
