Let Them Eat Foie!

Presidio Social Club Backs Down, Stops ‘Promoting’ Foie Gras

Well, that was fast. Barely a week into their very well publicized decision to serve foie gras because they’re on federal land, Presidio Social Club has backed down and taken it off the menu in deference to the landlords, the Presidio Trust. The Trust had been a little unhappy about the foie business, saying that they didn’t think it was consistent with the values promoted by the Trust, including “sustainability, respect for our environment, responsible stewardship.” Chef Ray Tang has issued a carefully worded statement saying that the he “will not have foie gras on the restaurant’s menu nor will it be promoted.” But, of course, that means he probably still will be serving it, just discreetly, like some other people.
