Slimy: Crooks Caught Slipping Off With Stephen Starr’s Used Fryer Oil

It turns out that the two slimy crooks who tried to slip off with 150 gallons of used cooking oil from behind Buddakan early Saturday weren’t so slick. Both men, who remain unidentified, were apprehended just around the corner from the restaurant shortly after the crime was reported, the Daily News reports. When employees of Waste Oil Recyclers Inc., the company hired to retrieve and repurpose the spent cooking oil as biofuel, arrived on the scene shortly after 6 a.m. to find locks cut and the storage containers used to gather the waste oil drained, they alerted police. A quick review of surveillance video showed the two greasy criminals backing a white van up to the back of the Stephen Starr restaurant, and siphoning off the oil, which is valued at $825. Police spotted the van on Third Street moments later, and arrested the two fryolater bandits. [Daily News]
