Here’s exciting news for two ends of town: On Monday, a new bakery called B1 Breadshop is opening its doors on Seventh Street, just east of Downtown, in a space that co-owner James Walker describes as a “factory and commissary” for this budding business. Starting next week, B1 is making all-natural, organic-flour French pastries and baguettes intended for retail sale and daily delivery of the day’s production, along with plans to sell organic, fair-trade coffee from Monkey & Sons. Wait, there’s more…

In addition to the Downtown branch, a Westside location of B1 is also currently under construction in the strip mall across from Sunny Spot in Venice/Marina del Rey, a few doors down from Wacky Wok. Projections of the spaces are offered on B1’s Facebook page, along with glistening photos of B1 baguettes, jesuites, palmiers, and crossaints, all looking very much like they’re the real deal.

Check out B1 when it opens Monday in Downtown and get ready for its Westside opening in the months to come.
