This can’t be an isolated incident, but Humphry Slocombe’s Jake Godby reports that he’s already received at least one phone call from anti-foie gras activists who are doing their own policing (since the SFPD ain’t gonna) and double checking to make sure they’re not still selling their foie gras ice cream sandwiches. (Tweets Godby, “They get really angry when I say baby seals are next.” It’s a joke, folks.) What’s next? Citizen’s arrests? We made some inquiries with other chefs and restaurateurs, but so far no one is willing to admit that they’re also being targeted for these foie checkups. And obviously no one is going to admit it if they are serving the stuff — and these activists, many of whom are vegetarian or vegan themselves, are not likely to want to drop a couple hundred dollars on a French dinner just to find out.
