No Jive: Turkeys Terrorize New Jersey Town

Gobble, gobble
Gobble, gobble

Even though the July Fourth holiday is still more than a week away, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s too soon to be talking turkey. Over in Burlington County, New Jersey, wild turkeys are terrorizing the locals. Walkers, joggers and cyclists have been getting attacked an ever-increasing rate by a fearsome flock that’s nearly doubled in size over the past year, the Inky reports. Folks there have grown accustomed to fending off the fowl with tennis rackets, purses, sticks and in at least one incident, a belt. Seems the turkeys and the townsfolk are locked into turf war over an area that’s recently been made a 2.5-mile stretch of recreational trails. The state’s Division of Fish and Wildlife is now sending in trappers to capture the turkeys and relocate them in North Jersey. A proposed feeding ban goes up for a vote there on July 10. [Inquirer]
