What does Danny Bowien force upon all “visiting dignitaries” at the new Mission Chinese Food in Manhattan, including Daniel Boulud and Ferran Adria? A bottle of Budweiser. It’s become kind of a tradition, and even Martha Stewart “took a pull and then handed it off to someone.” Our print siblings at New York Magazine just did a profile of 30-year-old Bowien, who’s already enjoyed quite a year of accolades and extra-special attention, and they note that even “in the opinion-stuffed culinary clusterfuck that is San Francisco” he’s been able to find many fans. Also, they reveal that the Lower East Side location of Mission Chinese Food won’t be the last — sounds like more New York locations are already in store, making Bowien San Francisco’s most rapidly successful export since Blue Bottle. (Reminder, the S.F. location is still on hiatus until the 14th.) [NY Mag]
