Well, the folks at Yountville resort Bardessono were very sad waking up yesterday to a truly crappy review by Michael Bauer of their newish restaurant, Lucy, which replaced the self-titled Bardessono in January. Bauer earlier panned Bardessono, which probably contributed to its demise, and now he writes of the decor at Lucy, “It’s an attempt at a casual, convivial feel, but the space still feels slick and corporate … [and] like the decor, the food falls short.”
He particularly hated a bright green arugula cocktail made with gin, and a weird sounding soft-shell crab dish, and says the service staff are inexperienced. And entrées north of $40 are all underwhelming or downright bad. About the only thing he liked was a carrot salad. He writes, “The concept simply doesn’t connect with the sophistication of the area.” And, it gets worse: “It might seem fine if diners were captive in a resort, but when they’re surrounded by many better options, it just feels sad.” All told: one and a half stars, with just the one for food.
