KCET reports on the plans flooding in for Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation’s redevelopment of the now defunct Lincoln Heights Jail, a sprawling property where Al Capone once spent a night that ceased operations in 1965. Among one non-loft possibility being considered for the reboot, which will be done pro-bono by architecture firm Perkins + Will, is a 24,000 square-foot rooftop garden that is gaining traction, as RRC will embark on a few urban agriculture and farm tours in the weeks to come while estimating a demo of the edible garden could be ready in 18 months. Of the challenges still in the way, one project manager notes, “In order to get to the roof, we have to fix the elevator…Nothing is in working condition.” [KCET via The Eastsider LA]
