Regarding the Corner Store, Opening Shortly

Up in the borderlands of the Richmond near USF will soon be a restaurant called The Corner Store (5 Masonic Avenue at Geary, formerly Hukilau). Grub Street broke the news about the place last month, noting that it was a new project from 330 Ritch owners Ezra Berman and Miles Palliser. Today we talked to Palliser about what’s to come, and here’s what he had to say.

What’s the concept for the project?

“Classic American flavors with a classic American feel”. Our goal is to be a very community driven hangout, both for our immediate neighborhoods and for our wider SF Bay Area community. Full bar, outdoor patio, soda fountain, and weekend brunches!

What will you be doing with the event permit you filed for with the ABC?

We have pulled/transferred an existing permit with the location which allows us to hold outdoor events in front of the location a few times per year (once a quarter is what the permit allows). More to follow on those. It’s not an entertainment permit from the Entertainment Commission, however, and we don’t plan on having regular live music or anything.

What will the food be like? Bar program?

Chef Nick Adams from restaurants Salt House and Town Hall will be creating a comforting American menu — lunch, dinner, and big weekend brunches. Hans Hinrichs from 25 Lusk and Foreign Cinema will be leading the full bar program. It’ll be like a soda fountain with unique cocktails, and he will add an original twist. There will be non-alcoholic options too!

When do you plan to open?

Summer 2012…
