Holy crap, this one seemingly came out of nowhere. Apparently while all eyes were fixed on Fountainhead Saloon, the forthcoming follow-up to Birra, owner Gordon Dinerman cut a deal with Rob LaScala to bring a taste of the East Passyunk Ave. pizza place to Old City. The new venture is called Barra and it’s going into 239-241 Chestnut Street, which LaScala’s been running as Rocchino’s and Azione for the last six months, a rep for Dinerman told Grub Street. Prior to that, the space was home to Dolce and Paradigm. And get this, it’s opening tonight! Like Birra, Barra will feature pizzas and beer, but will also offer an expanded menu of pasta dishes, steaks and more, plus a huge cocktail list. It will be open for dinner seven nights a week, and offer a small late night menu as it transforms into more of a lounge vibe after 11 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Lunch and brunch will follow in weeks to come.

Barra, 239-241 Chestnut Street, no phone yet.
