Angeleno’s annual restaurant issue is now out on sale and available online, offering the favorite picks of its restaurant editor (and frequent Grub sub) Lesley Balla. Summing up the past year, the issue notes how “chefs want us to eat with our eyes and our hands” these days, before passing its “Best New Chef” award to restaurant veteran Josef Centeno for his celebrated Downtown breakout Baco Mercat (while also preparing L.A. for his next one, a Tex-Mex spot called Ama). What else?

Plan Check’s smokey chicken earns a “Best New Dish” nod, Tar & Roses scores for “Best New Restaurant,” and Picca takes home “Best Design,” which must mean the look and not the sound control. In addition to a top ten new restaurants list, a familiarly-titled “Neighborhood Watch” column, and some chef thoughts on the foie gras ban, there’s also a review of Roy Choi’s Sunny Spot and a roundup of some dynamic new restaurants beyond our borders, though you’re most likely still catching up on L.A.’s huge boom. Take a look! [Angeleno]
