The L.A. Times reports on the curious case of Flynn McGarry, a thirteen-year-old, pint-sized chef with plans to cook eight-courses of “progressive American cuisine” at John Sedlar’s Playa on May 9. Is it still April Fool’s Day or something? Apparently not, though it’d be hard to blame anyone for thinking that the cult of chef-lebrity just collectively hurdled a Great White. The teen runs his own pop-up named Eureka, already has a cookbook and a New Yorker profile, and is organizing this Playa dinner so he can fund his way to a two-week stage at Grant Achatz’s Next. So, maybe he’s actually that good, as even Sedlar plans to keep some of the kiddo’s dishes on the menu for two weeks following his visit. [LAT]
