Is 10 Downing Turning French? Signs Point to Oui

It’s looking like the three-and-a-half-year-old West Village restaurant 10 Downing will soon shed its contemporary American vibe and reopen as a French bistro. La Villette appears to be the restaurant’s new name; representatives appeared before Community Board 2 in April to request a liquor license transfer for what they’re calling a “full service French restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

The liquor license application was filed with the SLA earlier this month, and there’s a “coming soon” placeholder website for the restaurant here.

Additionally, we hear that a new location of Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee is also somehow part of the reconfigured space, but will be separate from the new restaurant. All told, along with the forthcoming Mexican spot from John McDonald and Josh Pickard, it seems that one little corner of the West Village is about to change in a big way.
