Vera Launches Spanish Cooking Classes With Catalonia, April 28

“I just throw stuff on a plate that tastes good,” Mark Mendez is known to say when pressed to get all cheffy about how he cooks. But if it were that easy, there’d be Veras all over town. Achieving bold flavors with relative simplicity is as much an art as any style of cooking, and the chef of Vera and his sommelier wife Liz are launching a series of cooking and wine pairing classes at Vera with the food and wine of Catalonia Saturday, April 28 from 11 am to 1 pm. You’ll learn how to prepare some classic Catalonian dishes, and enjoy pairings of Penedès, Priorat, Terra Alta and more selected by Liz. And yes, you’ll taste everything. The cost is $40; call 312-243-9770 for reservations (required).
