It looks as if the city’s brunch scene will continue blowing up this weekend with a newcomer and an old standby entering into the weekend warrior fray for the first time. Square Peg, the Matt Levin vehicle from Cuba Libre’s honchos that just opened at 10th and Walnut streets, will begin serving brunch this Saturday, and then every Saturday and Sunday after, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu boasts such gonzo creations as breakfast poutine and scrapple hash! And as fooderati fixture Holly Moore pointed out yesterday in a thoughtful tweet, Jefferson Hospital is just across the street for emergency cardiac bypass.

You can peep Square Peg’s entire brunch menu here.

Center City BYOB Matyson is also popping its brunch cherry this weekend, introducing daytime service on Sunday. Long time sous chef Adam Wilner will pilot the kitchen for its maiden brunch voyage, and Matyson standby Cheri Fairall will hold down the front of the house. Along with a farm-fresh focused bill of fare, the crew will have drink mixers at the ready for your favorite breakfast remedies. The menu will feature dishes like poached eggs with crispy pork rillette, sourdough, smoked paprika-brown butter hollandaise; and a pork belly, egg and cheese sandwich with housemade smoked onion bagel and harissa mayo. Check out the full menu here. Reservations and walk-ins are both welcomed.
