We were just reading that there were no jobs in food media and the world was ending. Apparently the photographer Stephen Hamilton didn’t get that memo, because over the weekend he debuted his own magazine— and employed several local food writers in the process. Hamilton, who shoots luscious shots of food for everybody from national magazines to cookbooks to packaging, not to mention Top Chef (where he was a quickfire judge on Top Chef Masters), launched Who’s Hungry? magazine to showcase his photography while surrounded by the words (and recipes) of local writers like Steve Dolinsky, Janet Rausa Fuller and Kate Bernot, covering subjects from a mustard farm in California to the behind-the-scenes tricks of the food stylist. Yes, in one sense that means that it’s a 50-page ad for his services, but on the other hand, it means he’s doing exactly what Amanda Hesser recommended— innovating new kinds of quality content in the internet age, and we’re all for that. Print copies were distributed at the launch party Saturday, but the main way to see it is online, via the slick interface of a magazine site called issuu.com here.
