Mr. Bauer takes to the blog this a.m. to review some of the most common complaints he receives in the weeks after the annual release of his Top 100 list. He says he’s “still getting emails” with various reactions, many of which have to do with favorite neighborhood gems that got left off. But chief among the examples he shares today are complaints about all the noisy restaurants he chose (58 out of this year’s 100 had a four-bell or “bomb” rating), and how little attention gets paid to the Peninsula and the outer East Bay. “Give me the ‘lesser restaurants’ on the Peninsula where I can park and I can feel safe getting to my car,” proclaims one South Bay reader who clearly doesn’t get the point of a best-of list. To all of these complaints Bauer responds, “The simple answer is that the restaurants are better in San Francisco and Napa Valley.” So, sorry, Walnut Creek. You’ve got Va de Vi. Deal with it.
