Farmers markets continue to sprout up all over the city, with recent introductions to Glassell Park and another newbie coming to Altadena in May, which Los Angeles magazine promises will be graced by Big Mista’s BBQ and Squirl Jams, among other vendors. In more big news for the locavore set, LA City Farm, organizers of engaging seasonal markets at Yamashiroand The South Bay Pavillion are launching a new sixteen-vendor-strong market at Griffith Park’s The Autry National Center every Saturday (with a few exceptions) starting April 28 from 8:00 A.M. to noon.
While The Autry promises ping pong, bocce, and a mimosa bar at its cafe, confirmed indie vendors and organic suppliers include Cobblermania, Longshot Espresso, Homeboy Bakery, Milkman Artisan Cheeses, Underwood Family Farms, and Tutti Frutti Farms, all of which will offer a ten-percent discount to Autry members. With so many trails to hike here, here’s a market where you can truly eat to your hearts content, then walk it off afterward, with views to remind you why you dragged your butt out of bed in the first place.
