Iowa’s Templeton Rye has an interesting story. The modern rye bearing that brand comes from just one of many local families in Templeton, Iowa, who made their town synonymous with high quality hooch sold by a friendly Illinoisian… name of Al Capone. Liquor became legal again in the early 1930s but the knowledge gained making rye illegally in Templeton didn’t exactly go to waste in all the years since, let’s put it that way. Gapers Block and the Mayne Stage will offer you a chance to enjoy all of that history, legal and (much more often) illegal, and to knock back a taste of the stuff yourself on Thursday, March 22, with the Chicago premiere of the documentary Capone’s Whiskey: The Story of Templeton Rye, followed by a Q&A; with director Kristian Day and a cocktail reception featuring, well, you know what. The film premieres during Whisky Week, the day before Whisky Fest Chicago; tickets are $15 and $10 and available through Mayne Stage. Watch the trailer for the film below.
