Echo Park’s forthcoming location of Señor Fish is taking a literal and symbolic scouring pad to the neighborhood’s newly bleached streets. The Eastsider L.A. reports that the Logan Street mural celebrating that Latina right-of-passage, La Quinceañera, could soon be fully removed to make way for the restaurant’s signage. The piece is already erased partially by way of sand-blaster, while the mural’s creator, Theresa Powers, is currently in discussion about her options to preserve it or document its destruction with Fish owner Enrique Ramirez, who has stopped the buffing until a resolution can be reached. It would be a shame to see this positive piece of our city’s past fade off into Sunset, even if it might help us forget that muy malo movie of the same name. [The Eastsider LA]
