PBS Will Debut Food Forward, a New Series Featuring David Kinch, This April

Two years back, Grub Street first noted some teaser footage of a food documentary series being produced for PBS called Food Forward. The series is an attempt by producer/director Greg Roden to turn the frown of such films as Food Inc. upside down and take a brighter, more optimistic look at what’s happening in the food world today. The show features Manresa chef David Kinch, among others, and now it turns out the show will debut on PBS stations nationwide in April.

Food Forward also features West Oakland urban-farm pioneer Abeni Ramsey, who’s been acquiring vacant lots to grow fresh produce for several years; and California grass-feed-beef rancher Joe Morris. In other words, it sounds like the exact opposite of Bravo’s upcoming food show, Sex and the Kitchen.

The first airing of Food Forward on KQED in San Francisco will be April 9, but check here for other times and stations.

Below, the five-minute extended trailer for the series.
