Shortly after writing a controversial tell-all about slimming down her daughter, Bea, who had become “obese,” Dara-Lynn Weiss has accomplished something almost as hard as humiliating your scared, vulnerable, prepubescent daughter on a national platform catering to mean girls and skinny bitches around the world: She’s landed herself a big book deal. Random House will publish The Heavy, “an experience that epitomizes the modern parenting ‘damned if you do/damned if you don’t’ predicament.” So whether you think Weiss’s willingness to open up the chubby-child conversation is brave or abusive, we just hope the advance was big enough to cover a lifetime of family therapy.
