Residents and activists in Boyle Heights are attempting to defend the neighborhood against a staggering number of liquor stores now dotting its landscape. Boyle Heights Beat suggests that the East L.A. city has “45 percent more [liquor stores] than Compton and Santa Monica,” while one resident is quoted as saying this provides too much temptation.

The Boyle Heights Stakeholder Association is holding a meeting this Thursday night with public officials and residents to discuss the issue and potentially kick off a campaign that would try and reduce the large number of local liquor outlets in conjunction with The Boyle Heights Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Community, which is currently asking for resident letters speaking out against the problems and blight arising from the boozy saturation.
