A Mexico City specialty not often seen in these parts, the torta de tamal (tamale sandwich) has recently made an appearance across the bay courtesy of Tamales Amy, a stand inside Produce Pro (2314 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland). Chow reports that Amy serves up shredded chicken and cheese varieties, and in both cases it’s a “sturdy tamale loaded onto a crunchy oval bolillo roll.” So yes, great for carb-loading, or soaking up booze from day-drinking.
