Ari Taymor, a veteran of San Fran’s Flour & Water, joined Santa Monica’s Salute Wine Bar as executive chef at the end of October. Today, Taymor writes to tell us he’s outta there, as the chic, hidden restaurant has fallen under new ownership, leading to a forthcoming place called Brick and Mortar. Taymor is currently looking to start his own project in the SIlver Lake or Echo park area, but in the meantime, is teaming up with Paige Clay, the owner of Venice’s Flake on Rose Avenue.
Starting February 16th, Taymor plans to serve dinner four nights a week at Flake at his own pop-up, called Alma (Spanish for soul), scheduled Wednesday through Saturday nights, offering a three course dinner for $35 and five courses for $55. Taymor was recently called "one to watch" in local blog Mise-En-Place, which was bowled over by the chef’s market-direct approach.
